Ceramicist Re Jin Lee is at The Beck

We want to extend a very warm welcome to ceramic sculpture artist, Re Jin Lee. Born and raised in Sao Paulo, Brazil to South Korean parents, she is greatly influenced by the mix of Brazilian modern architecture, Portuguese colonial architecture, and traditional Korean arts.

The negative space in these architectural works is equally as interesting as the sculptural form itself. Re Jin’s work is described as “a unique assembly of individually rolled out clay slabs and coils created by a 'hand and clay' collaboration inspired by the contemplative process of ceramics and belief in simplicity.”

This towering sculpture feels like a sunrise! Re Jin Lee “Subconsciously takes in the influence of the surrounding softness of nature and the unpredictable moods of self, while still maintaining the firm structure of past influences.”

I find this piece immensely calming with its pillowy forms and repeating undulation. It appears so much softer than the reality of its material!

Don’t miss Re Jin Lee’s work on display at The Beck gallery through the end of the year. It can be viewed at street level anytime. Or contact us through the form below to schedule an intimate, in-person look at her fascinating works.

Re Jin Lee also hosts upstate immersive retreats through Unwind Retreat NY. The workshops are thoughtfully structured to give basic guidance in working with clay while providing a path to clear the mind.
