Autumn Greetings!

Marking her first full year with Ana Claudia Design, we thought it timely to share a note from our staff architectural designer, Alana Blum:

Another fall is upon us, a favorite time of year for so many, but this one feels different after the pause and uncertainty of last year. Returning to in-person gatherings and reconnecting with our community seems more special than usual. The Hudson Valley is as bountiful as ever with as many beloved seasonal agricultural and culinary treats around every corner (Apples! Squash! Cider!) as there are cultural and design events.

With a backdrop of the fiery foliage that makes the region a perennial destination, here's what is on our activity radar for October:

Uptown Kingston.png

As far as we are concerned early October is all about Kingston. The Kingston Farmer’s Market normally anchors activity in historic Uptown (also known as the Stockade District) on Saturdays, but the first weekend of October will see it joined by The Stockade Faire, an annual community street fair. Expanded from years past, music, entertainment, and maker booths will fill up 2 blocks already teeming with a great variety of shops and restaurants on Saturday, Oct. 2. In addition, this weekend will see the first-ever OMG Art Faire taking place all weekend long right in the middle of it all. The only art fair of its kind in the Hudson Valley, OMG will showcase contemporary fine art galleries from upstate and NYC with many events scheduled over the course of 4 days in the Wall Street Music Hall.

Field + Supply Maker Faire at Hutton Brickyards

We are greatly looking forward to attending  Field + Supply Fall Market the 2nd weekend of October.  F+S is a modern interpretation of the traditional arts and crafts fair, and consists of a carefully curated selection of makers, highlighting distinctive goods, old and new, from a variety of studios and workshops.  Held at the Hutton Brickyards in Kingston, an open-air venue situated on the shores of the Hudson that has expanded year-round offerings greatly in the last couple of years and is a great example of the adaptive re-use of industrial infrastructure from a by-gone era, this event is now in it’s 4th year at this location. We count on running into many of our industry neighbors & friends at F+S and anticipate being inspired by the talents of new vendors and future collaborators!

Keep an eye out for Sinca Design’s booth at Field + Supply. Maria’s Mezcal table shown here is an ACD favorite!

The same weekend the 4th annual Kingston Design Showhouse will be in full swing conveniently just up the road. This year the property that is getting transformed is part of the Kingston Land Bank, an organization that aims to transform vacant or distressed properties into community assets that improve the quality of life for Kingston residents, stabilize and enhance neighborhoods, and create new pathways for social and economic development. A very talented roster of selected designers has partnered with local makers, artists, and skilled contract workers to execute their renovation visions for the rooms in one lucky historic single family residence. If sensory overload ensues the show house will be open to the public other weekends later in the month as well!

Please note advance tickets for most of the above are required.

And don’t forget about getting out into the nearby mountains and woods for great walks and hikes! Just a 15 min. drive outside of Kingston you can access the Ashokan Rail Trail which offers great views of the Ashokan Reservoir and some respite from all the cultural activity that’s descended upon Kingston. Be safe and be sure to enjoy the foliage, the firepits, and friendships along the way:-)

Happy Exploring!
