L.A. - So Much Loss and Devastation

As an interior designer, I have always found deep inspiration in the architectural masterpieces that dot the landscape of Los Angeles. These structures are more than just buildings; they are the embodiment of the city's rich history, culture, and creativity. It is with a heavy heart that I process the recent wildfires that have ravaged L.A., leading to the destruction of more than 12,000 structures, including some historically significant architectural treasures.

The relentless fires have spared few, and among the losses are houses designed by renowned architects Richard Neutra and Ray Kappe. Neutra, a modernist visionary, created homes that seamlessly integrated indoor and outdoor spaces, characterized by their sleek lines and expansive glass windows.

Ray Kappe, another titan of modernist architecture, saw his remarkable designs reduced to ashes. His signature style, which emphasized natural materials and a harmonious relationship with the landscape, was evident in every corner of this beautiful residence.

Dezeen magazine published this great article about the loss of some of Los Angeles’ most iconic structures. https://www.dezeen.com/2025/01/14/neutra-house-iconic-architecture-lost-la-fire/

Not to be forgotten is the excessive loss of homes, property, pets, livelihoods, and lifestyle. I’m certain we all wish we could do more to heal the deep wounds that so many are suffering in L.A. at this time. I personally will be making donations to “Project Hope”, an organization with boots on the ground in L.A. sourcing and distributing immediately needed items and services, and “Pasadena Humane Society”, which has already taken in over 700 animals from the Eaton Fire. Please consider joining me by donating now.

With sadness but hope, stay safe out there everyone.
