Sarah Mijares Fick is at The Beck

Sarah Mijares Studio is a ray of sunshine in this otherwise gloomy time of year. We’re thrilled to announce her works on display at The Beck this season! Sarah, a ceramic artist based in Chatham, NY, creates collections of handbuilt vessels, furniture pieces, and objects inspired by her love and admiration for the Earth. By creating these everyday objects she hopes others build a closer relationship with the natural world, and themselves.

I find the palette in this vase titled Brushstroke Vessel so soothing. The colors move over the piece like water flowing through a stream.

The Caldera Vessel seems aptly named seeing as a caldera is a large cauldron-like hollow that forms shortly after the emptying of a magma chamber in a volcano eruption. This piece seems impossibly man made to me, and more akin to a shell or coral formation!

Knob Lamp is just too much fun! I can actually picture this piece in many of my past designs. It is amoebic and beautifully neutral while at the same time both whimsical and modern. A truly versatile piece of functional art!

The juxtaposition of the organic shape against its opulent surface finish makes this piece, Unity, absolutely mesmerizing. I have found myself staring at it over and over again here at the design gallery. It certainly makes visual references to natural geologic formations but there is something so inviting and magnetic about this work.

Sarah Mijares Fick began working with clay in 2011 and has since developed her practice independently and under noted ceramic artists in New York, New Mexico, South Korea and Morocco. She established Sarah Mijares Studio LLC in 2020.
