SAM CROW RUGS AT THE BECK

“Sam Crow is a Hudson Valley-based artist that operates between the worlds of textile, design, craft, and art to create contemporary hand tufted rugs. She draws from the hard-earned skill and long-time traditions of rug making to create her own vision through yarn. Her visual imagery seeks to combine the concepts of slow traditional American craft with a digital and modernized view of shaping, color, and function.”

We love her Stained Glass series, incorporating geometry and a neutral palette.

Stained Glass No. 6

Sam studied her craft at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Paris, France. Her work has been displayed in NYC, Portland and LA and she has installations in NYC and London. Her work is sometimes functional, but not always!

Stained glass art is documented back to the 7th century, while weaving and other fiber arts are considerably older. Marrying the two art forms with modern 21st century functionality seems like such an homage to these classic arts.

All of the rugs that you see here can be purchased through our design gallery, The Beck, in Rhinebeck. You can also schedule an appointment online to view Sam Crow’s works in person at the gallery. A great excuse to come say hello!
